What happened?
Tell us what happened in your own words. We'll turn it into a simple story you can go through together.
Things we're practising — situations you have saved, for a calmer day.
How it works
- Type what happened in your own words — a sentence or two is plenty.
- Roo Bloom gives you a few words to say right now, while they are upset.
- When they are ready, go through four short picture stages together — ending with one sentence they can practise saying.
- If it has not understood, edit what happened and try again.
- Save it for another day if it is one worth practising — it is kept in this browser, and nothing is saved unless you ask.
Who this is for
Families with a child who finds it hard when something they wanted turns out not to be possible — a cup they saw at school, a park trip stopped by rain, a tower that fell, a turn that went to somebody else. It is written for children roughly five to eight, and for the adult sitting next to them.
The idea underneath it is the same one as the rest of the site: feelings are okay, not everything we want can happen right now, and we can choose what to do next.
What it will not do
- It will not tell your child they behaved badly, or ask them to stop being upset.
- It will not promise anything you have not promised — it offers asking, never the answer.
- It will not invent a second thing to do so the screen looks like a choice.
- It will not label your child, or say anything diagnostic about them.
This is a rehearsal tool, not an assessment, and it does not know your child. You are the one who decides whether what it says is right — if it is not, edit what happened and try again.
What happens to what you type
Your description is sent to an AI provider to write the story. Roo Bloom uses OpenAI for this, and Anthropic as a backup when OpenAI cannot answer — so one of the two receives it, not both. It is used for that and nothing else: we do not store it, log it or attach it to anything. There is no account and no history.
The description is not kept on your device either. Your most recent story is, so you can open it again — with a Remove it button beside it — and your child's name, if you have given one, never leaves your browser at all.
If you choose to save a story for another day, it is kept in this browser too, on the same terms: nothing is saved unless you press Save for practice, every saved situation has a Remove beside it on Things we're practising, and none of it is sent anywhere.
