For grown-ups

Away from the screen: Line up three toys by how old they are, or by how tall they are.

Easy
Three numbers under 20, or life stages, smallest first.
Medium
Four numbers or ages up to 100, either direction.
Hard
Five numbers or ages, look-alikes, and months mixed with years.
  • Start on Easy, even if it looks too simple. Success first, then move up when your child wants to.
  • Use real things alongside the screen: cups for sizes, coins for money, a calendar on the fridge.
  • Wait a little longer than feels natural. Quiet thinking time is part of it.
  • If they pick something you did not expect, ask them to tell you about it. Their reason is often interesting.
  • Pointing, signing, a device or a picture card are all real answers. Speaking is not the goal here.
  • Stop when it stops being fun. A few minutes, often, beats a long sitting.
  • These are games, not assessments. If you have concerns, talk to a teacher or speech pathologist.
